I was born in Texas. Specifically north east Texas. I grew up just outside of Dallas. The day I graduated high school I knew I wanted to live other places. I started by moving to Galveston Texas for a year then back to Dallas area for a few years. I got board with Dallas again so moved to Austin. Spent a few years slumming around Austin then spent a year in Jacksonville Beach Florida then back to Dallas where I met my now wife.
In 2008 we got married on the beach in Jamaica and while sitting on the beach drinking chunky monkeys the day after our wedding we made some plans. Step 1 Get the out of Dallas; we moved to Austin within a couple of months. Step 2 Get out of Texas; A year after moving to Austin we moved to Seattle and all of a sudden we had made good on our plans 4 years sooner than we planned. This afforded us the opportunity to really get out of our comfort zones and experience a new place. Seattle was great and if an opportunity for my wife to advance her career did not arise within the company she worked for we would probably still be living there and be perfectly content. Well that opportunity allowed us a move to Los Angeles then back to Austin Texas then to Philadelphia and as of May 2019 the Netherlands.
Since living in the Netherlands (half of which has been during the Pandemic) I have expanded my already broad pallet. I love having new and unusual food and drink. It is a huge part of what makes life interesting to me. I am fortunate to have a partner that agrees with me. We eat and drink absolutely anything. New and different are our favorite things. When we go to a new city, region, state or country; we always look for and find the local cuisine. We don’t just look for the BBQ in Austin or Salmon in Seattle, we go for the real local stuff. Try Oysters in Seattle or Brats on sixth street in Austin. I know its cliché but I want to eat what the locals eat and typically what is locally made… except when its not
